are they scraping out a little path for that rock, like making a groove in the ice? i suppose i could google it and find out, but i don't ever ever want to be caught googling curling online.
sasha cohen, now that's another thing. she lives 2 miles from me!

good question, grafittipete!, and i can give you a good, straight answer. well, not so straight as it turns out (ha ha!), because curling ice isn't smooth like hockey ice, its rough texture allows the stones to 'curl' or curve when they begin to lose speed... hence the clever name. the sweepers help to control the speed of the stones (and to a lesser extent the curl) by clearing moisture or debris from the stones' path. so when you hear the skip yell 'hard!' he/she believes the stone is moving too slowly for the intended shot and wants more speed (he's not indicating his level of excitement as i was originally led to believe). it's a fantastic finesse game that you don't really appreciate unless you watch 6 or 7 straight hours... you know... instead of having healthy sexual relationships with women.

sasha cohen is wicked hot, though.

i had to google her cuz i had no idea who she was... shows how interested i've been in the olympics, eh?

she's a hot one. i'll give her that. flexible too, i bet. get on that, R.

Thanks for breaking that down, R. I literally had it on for the better part of two hours the other day, but the Canadian accents of the announcers are akin to firing a staple gun into my ears, so I had to mute it the entire time. I really wanted to get a better sense of the game...er...sport, but the finer points get lost without sound.

i've just discovered that the word 'curling' is derived from the scottish word, curr which describes the rumble sound stones make when sliding over pebbled ice. just wanted to clarify that, you know, in case you wanted to bring it up at a dinner party or something... or while doing blow. whichever.

why aren't curling teams integrated? If any sport begged "unisex" this is it.
also, you now have more comments than words in your original post, so you probably shouldn't bitch about blog etiquette anymore.
