THE JD/NO STREAM...

Reckless brings up an interesting topic concerning the lyrics re-published in the Can't....Stop....Listening post; my contention is that the song 'Dreams Never End' was released on a New Order EP in 1981, but since Ian Curtis appeared on the album it must have been recorded as a Joy Division track (in reference to the agreement that should one of the band members leave and/or die and/or hang himself after watching a documentary on alcoholic Wisconsinites, the remaining band members would continue under a new moniker). Hence 'Dreams Never End' was released as a New Order cut, but recorded when the band was Joy Division.

sound reasonable? it's all so very confusing in the early 80s mess of re-releases, singles, 7", and 12" that made music so goddamn fantastic in those days....

that's peter hook singing on dreams never end, dude. plus sumner through a voice box for the harmonies.

ian was long dead when movement was recorded. the only songs that he wrote that were re-recorded were 'in a lonely place' and 'isolation.' fitting really. no one knew what the lyrics were, so they slowed down pracitice tapes and took their best guess when new order re-recorded them.

fun fact: ian curtis' singing voice is much higher than on the records. martin hannett deepened it artificically in the studio, and when people began to associate the deep vocals with the band, they were forced to use the effect live as well.

i should probably post to my own blog at some point, no?

hmmmm... that's true, curtis died in 80, didn't he...

why on earth did they modulate everyone's voice back then?

also, what's the story with 'the him'? and why did you go that way originally?

Incidentally, I can’t believe I got that oh so very wrong. What was I thinking? How terribly embarrassing
